As per the latest World Health Organisation report , the epidemic of yellow fever virus continues to grow in some part of Brazil and could migrate to other countries also.

Yellow fever also known as a Sylvatic fever, is a deadly viral hemorrhagic  disease  that is caused by a virus(Flavi-virus) which is imparted to humans by the bite of an infected female mosquito known as Aedes Aegypti .Aedes mosquitoes are found in tropical and sub tropical regions.Yellow fever is carried by the monkeys and can be transmitted to humans by mosquito bites.

What are the types of yellow fever?

There are three types of Yellow fever-Sylvatic (Jungle) yellow fever, intermediate yellow fever and urban yellow fever.

1.  Jungle yellow fever - Mosquitoes that breed in rural regions can cause yellow fever in monkeys and people. People usually get affected when infected mosquitoes bite them.

2.  Intermediate yellow fever- Mosquitoes that breed in rural and suburban  regions can cause yellow fever in  people.

3.  Urban yellow fever- Mosquitoes that breed in still water and houses causes the yellow fever  in human.


What are the symptoms of yellow fever?


Fever
Chills
Vomiting
 Backache 
Jaundice
Lung failure
Kidney failure
Loss of appetite
Abdominal pain
Bleeding  from the nose ,mouth and eyes


  
How  is yellow fever  transmitted ?
Yellow fever is a serious mosquito-borne disease . Flavi-virus ,which is transmitted through the female mosquito Aedes Aegypti in humans causes the yellow fever. Mosquito get infected with the virus when they bite infected humans or monkeys .
Is yellow fever contagious?
No, it is not contagious .It does not spread from one person to another unlike other flu .
Who is at risk?
People who live in areas  inhabited  by the infected mosquitoes and humans  and those who have not been vaccinated for yellow fever  are at great  risk. According to the WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION ,34 countries in  South Africa and in 13 countries in Central and South America are more prone to yellow fever.
How to prevent ?

1.     Vaccination is very effective and only way to prevent Yellow Fever.

2.     Wearing clothes that cover  most part of the body .

3.     Using an powerful insect repellent.

4.     Sleeping with mosquito protective net .

The WHO stated, "a single dose of vaccination is sufficient to confer long-lasting resilience against yellow fever disease”.
