Are You Sweating Too Much? Know the Causes
It is natural phenomena that you sweat when your environment is hot. But what if you experience heavy and excess sweating when there is no reason to. If this is the condition with you also then you should be alert as heavy sweating can be due to some medical conditions that you should be aware of. One of the most common conditions of excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is usually common at night which causes the repeated occurrence of extreme perspiration that makes you fully drenched even if your environment is cool.
Why does the body sweat?
Sweating occurs to cool down the body’s temperature. Approximately 2 millions sweat glands are present in our body that helps cool down the body’s temperature. They release the heat in form of sweat. Sweating is mostly experienced in the day but it increases with the rise in humidity level.
Causes of Night Sweats
Sweating while sleeping can due to various medical conditions. Or it can be due to the side effects of some medications or medical conditions. Let’s know the various common causes of night sweats.
1. Infections
Heavy sweating can be the result of various infections that lead to fever such as-
Tuberculosis
Influenza
HIV
2. Hormonal Imbalance
There are various medical conditions that cause hormonal imbalance in the body. Imbalance hormones cause various medical conditions such as diabetes, thyroid diseases, and tumors. These conditions also cause night sweat.
3. Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
GERD is chronic digestive medical conditions. It happens when your stomach forms too much acid which flows back through the food pipe. It causes irritability in the food pipe. It also causes heart burn and excess sweat.
4. Cancer
Cancer- If you are experiencing heavy sweat at night regardless of cool temperature. You should give attention to it as it might be the symptoms of cancer. Lymphoma is one of the cancers which is highly associated with heavy sweating.
5. Anxiety
One of the most common causes of excessive sweating is anxiety or depression.
6. Hypoglycemia
It is a medical condition when your blood sugar level declines sharply. People with diabetes more commonly suffer from this condition during the night. Hence, it is recommended to you to keep eye on your sugar level for peaceful sleep.
7. Neurological Conditions
There may be some neurological conditions that can also lead to excessive perspiration.These conditions are
• Autonomic dysreflexia
• Post-traumatic Syringomyelia
• Stroke
• Autonomic neuropath
8. Medications
The side effects of medication can also cause heavy sweating.Some of the most common drugs are-
• Anti-depressants: Medicines to treat depression are called anti depressants.
• Hormone-blocking drugs: Medicines that are given to treat certain cancers.
• Hypoglycaemic Drugs: Drugs which are used to treat diabetes.
Sweats are usually harmless but it could be an indication of some underlying medical conditions.You should consult your doctor if you experience these symptoms.

• Interrupting the sleep
• They are the result of fever, weight loss, localized pain, cough, diarrhea, or other symptoms of concern.
