Causes and Treatment for Low Blood Pressure





Low blood pressure which is also known as hypotension (less than 90/60) can be as dangerous and life threatening as the high blood pressure. Low blood pressure causes various medical condition due to the lack of blood flow to the brain, heart and other organs. If you experience symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, blurred vision, nausea, fatigue, confusion, weak and rapid pulse, pale skin you should talk to your doctor as you might be suffering from the hypotension. Making simple changes in diet and lifestyle can effectively treat your low blood pressure.


Conditions that can cause low blood pressure


These are the conditions that cause low blood pressure


• Pregnancy- Pregnancy is the most common condition that leads to low blood pressure.


• Heart problems- Some heart problems such as heart attack, heart failure, bradycardia (low heart rate), and heart valve problems also cause low blood pressure.


• Endocrine problems- Some thyroid conditions, Addison’s disease, low blood sugar and diabetes also trigger low blood pressure.


• Dehydration- Lack of water in the body cause problems of low blood pressure such as weakness, dizziness, fatigue, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Excessive use of tea and coffee and strenuous exercise can also cause dehydration.


• Blood loss- Lack of blood in the body due to any accident, major injury or internal bleeding also cause the sudden drop in blood pressure.


• Severe infection (septicemia)- Septicemia is a severe blood infection; also called blood poisoning can also be the reason of low blood pressure.


• Lack of nutrients in your diet- A lack of the nutrients such as vitamins B-12 and folate cause anemia that can further lead to low blood pressure.


Risk factor-


1. Age- Elder people are at great risk of getting the lower blood pressure. Though it also affects children and adults.


2. Medication- People who goes through certain medication is also at greater risk of getting the lower blood pressure.


3. Certain disease- Certain diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases also put people at great risk.


Here are some tips that would surely help you treat your low blood pressure.


1. Eat small meal frequently-


Eating small portions of meal frequently prevents your blood pressure from sudden dropping.






2. Have adequate salt- According to WHO, our diet must contain at least one teaspoon of salt. You should include the moderate amount of salt in your diet as it is required for various functions. You should also keep in mind that excess salt is bad for health.




3. Drink more fluids- Dehydration can be one of the major causes of your low blood pressure. It is highly recommended to you to drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water every day to prevent low blood pressure.




4. Tulsi Leaves- Tulsi leaves contain nutrients and anti oxidants that help in regulating blood pressure.It also keeps your cholesterol under control.




5. Almond Milk- Eating 5 to 6 soaked and peeled almond or drinking it paste with a glass of milk also prevent your blood pressure from falling.




6. Munaka- Munaka has also considered the best food that prevents blood pressure from dropping. You can soak it in water and have it in morning with a glass of milk.




7. Coffee- Consumption of a hot cup strong coffee can temporarily increase your blood pressure. So if you experience fatigue, dizziness or tiredness, you can go for a cup of coffee.




8. Raisins- Eating 30 to 40 soaked raisins in the morning would surely help you regulate your blood pressure. It has been considered the best treatment for hypotension.
